Following a recent review by the American College of Radiology (ACR) Menorah Medical Center—part of HCA Midwest Health System, Kansas City’s largest healthcare provider—received a three-year term of accreditation in breast magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Breast MRIs offer valuable information about many breast conditions that may not be obtained by other imaging modalities such as mammography or ultrasound.
As a Johnson County cancer care leader, The Breast Center at Menorah Medical Center—accredited by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers—focuses on cancer prevention, early detection and personalized care.
The ACR gold seal of accreditation recognizes the highest level of image quality and patient safety. Only facilities that meet ACR Practice Guidelines and Technical Standards receive the award after a peer-review evaluation by board-certified physicians and medical physicists who are experts in the field. These experts assess image quality, personnel qualifications, adequacy of facility equipment and their quality control procedures, and quality assurance programs. Their findings are reported to the ACR Committee on Accreditation, which subsequently provides Menorah Medical Center and The Breast Center with a comprehensive report.
“It is an honor to receive this prestigious designation,” says Steven D. Wilkinson, FACHE, President and Chief Executive Officer, Menorah Medical Center. “This accreditation recognizes the hard work and dedication of our staff providing the very highest standard of care for patients from throughout the Kansas City area.”
The Breast Center at Menorah Medical Center is staffed by some of the area’s most renowned breast cancer experts who collaborate to provide comprehensive, patient-centered breast care, including The Breast Cancer Prevention Program, which helps patients understand and manage their breast cancer risk by combining the latest medical and scientific knowledge with the most advanced surveillance, screening and diagnostic methods. In addition, The Breast Center at Menorah Medical Center offers next-generation diagnostics with Automated Breast Volume Ultrasound (ABVS), a 3D ultrasound, used as a secondary breast cancer diagnostic tool for women with dense breast tissue.
“We are delighted to receive this accreditation from ACR,” says Cheryl Johnson, MS, RT(R), and Imaging Director for The Breast Center at Menorah Medical Center. “Our team is dedicated to reducing the risk of people developing breast cancer and improving the quality of life and long-term survival for those who do.”
A national professional organization serving more than 36,000 diagnostic/interventional radiologists, radiation oncologists, nuclear medicine physicians, and medical physicists, the ACR offers programs focusing on the practice of medical imaging and radiation oncology and the delivery of comprehensive health care services.
