Menorah Medical Center—part of HCA Midwest Health System, Kansas City’s largest healthcare provider—is among more than 100 Kansas hospitals that have joined or renewed their commitment to a national patient safety initiative in 2014. Menorah Medical Center joined the Hospital Engagement Network (HEN) at the beginning of the initiative in 2012 and has renewed each year. It is the only Johnson County hospital to participate in the Kansas HEN, which is administered by Topeka-based nonprofit Kansas Healthcare Collaborative (KHC), a designee of the Kansas Hospital Association.
The Kansas HEN is part of the American Hospital Association/Health Research & Educational Trust HEN, which includes nearly 1,500 hospitals in 31 states that cooperatively conduct quality and patient safety improvement projects focused on 10 areas ranging from falls and surgical site infections to preventable readmissions.
“Menorah Medical Center is proud to be involved in this important initiative that focuses on increasing patient safety,” says Steven D. Wilkinson, FACHE, Menorah Medical Center President and Chief Executive Officer. “The Kansas HEN offers valuable tools for medical professionals that ultimately benefit each and every individual treated at this and other hospitals throughout the state.”
KHC offers more than 60 performance improvement coaching webinars and more than 50 on-site visits to help participating hospitals meet national goals of working to reduce hospital-acquired medical conditions by 40 percent and preventable readmissions by 20 percent.
“We are delighted to participate in this collaborative program which enhances the performance of our medical staff as it benefits our patients,” says Denise Miller, MD, Menorah Medical Center Chief Medical Officer. “This program is a great way for Kansas hospitals to learn from and share best practices with each other in order to improve the level and quality of care they provide.”
Four other HCA Midwest Health System hospitals are part of the Missouri Hospital Engagement Network (HEN): Centerpoint Medical Center, Lafayette Regional Health Center, Lee¹s Summit Medical Center and Research Medical Center.
