Dr. Glenn Amundson, MD, a graduate of the US Naval Academy and a retired captain of the Medical Corps in the United States Navy Reserves, has devoted his medical career to advancing care and surgery of the spine. A board-certified orthopedic surgeon, he specializes in advanced procedures in adult surgery of the spine. Dr. Amundson earned his medical degree from the University of Iowa Medical College, and went on to complete his orthopedic surgery residency at the Naval Hospital in San Diego, CA He continued his medical training with a spine fellowship at the University of California in San Diego, and afterwards, served as Director of Spine Surgery Services and Assistant Chairman of the Department of Orthopaedics at the Naval Hospital in Portsmouth, VA Dr. Amundson has been actively involved in researching advanced spinal surgery procedures and instrumentation throughout his orthopedic career, including FDA studies on open and laparoscopic lumbar spinal fusion. He has published dozens of journal articles, abstracts, and textbook chapters, and has held academic appointments as Assistant Professor at the University of Kansas Medical Center, the Veterans Administration Hospital in Kansas City, MO, and at the Uniformed Services University of Health Sciences in Bethesda, MD. Dr. Amundson also belongs to several professional societies including the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and the Society of Military Orthopaedic Surgeons.
