Dr. Glenn Amundson , MD a graduate of the US Naval Academy and a retired captain of the Medical Corps in the United States Navy Reserves , has devoted his medical career to advancing care and surgery of the spine. A board - certified orthopedic surgeon , he specializes in advanced procedures in adult surgery of the spine. Dr. Amundson earned his medical degree from the University of Iowa Medical College , and went on to complete his orthopedic surgery residency at the Naval Hospital in San Diego , CA. He continued his medical training with a spine fellowship at the University of California in San Diego , and afterwards , served as Director of Spine Surgery Services and Assistant Chairman of the Department of Orthopaedics at the Naval Hospital in Portsmouth , VA. Dr. Amundson has been actively involved in researching advanced spinal surgery procedures and instrumentation throughout his orthopedic career , including FDA studies on open and laparoscopic lumbar spinal fusion. He has published dozens of journal articles , abstracts , and textbook chapters , and has held academic appointments as Assistant Professor at the University of Kansas Medical Center , the Veterans Administration Hospital in Kansas City , MO , and at the Uniformed Services University of Health Sciences in Bethesda , MD. Dr. Amundson also belongs to several professional societies including the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and the Society of Military Orthopaedic Surgeons.
