The causes of sarcomas are unknown. Genetics play a major role in most cases.

The following factors increase your chance of developing a sarcoma:

  • Tumors
  • Family history
  • Exposure to certain types of chemicals
  • Inherited diseases
  • Exposure to radiation
  • Prior cancer

There are no guidelines for preventing sarcomas. Early diagnosis and treatment improve chances of success.
