Meet Our Team

The Sarcoma Institute at Menorah Medical Center treats patients from a wide geographical region. Patients with both benign and malignant tumors of the musculoskeletal system, metabolic bone diseases such as Paget's Disease, and developmental types of bone diseases such as Fibrous Dysplasia are treated through the experienced hands of our Sarcoma team.

Howard G. Rosenthal, MD, a fellowship-trained, board-certified and nationally recognized surgeon with over 22 years experience in orthopaedic oncology and metabolic bone diseases leads the team in providing restoration of health, life, and function to his patients.

Kim Haynes, RN, DNP, ACNS-BC, ONC is the clinical nurse specialist for the Sarcoma Institute and has dedicated nearly 18 years of her career specifically to musculoskeletal oncology. Her focus is in patient education and care of the patient with sarcoma in the peri-operative and long term follow-up setting. She serves as the nurse coordinator and navigator acting as liaison between surgical and medical teams. Kim provides a wealth of education for the patient and their families allowing them to better understand their cancer and treatment.

Tracy Slimmer, RN, OCN serves as nurse coordinator, assisting in patient care and education as well as acting as liaison between the surgical and medical oncology teams for the treatment of sarcoma. With her special training in chemotherapy administration, she also assists sarcoma patients who have to undergo a chemotherapeutic regimen.

In addition to the Sarcoma Institute’s solid leadership team, the Institute is equipped with specialists in general and vascular surgery, plastic surgery, bone radiology, sarcoma pathology, and of course both pediatric and adult medical oncology to provide chemotherapy to patients in need. The Institute also boasts one of only a handful of radiation oncologists in the country with expertise in radiation for sarcomas deliverable through a wide variety of means including, brachytherapy and Cyberknife®.

A dedicated physical medicine and rehabilitation physician specifically trained and with a keen interest and expertise in limb preservation patients completes our team. Together, this unique and highly qualified group works together to offer patients the best possible care.

Our team meets regularly to discuss not only the medical concerns of the patient, but also specific social concerns, nutritional and preventative options, and even wellness issues that may arise in specific patients’ course of their disease.
