Menorah Medical Center Announces the Arrival of the da Vinci® Robotic Surgical System

Menorah Medical Center, part of HCA Midwest Health System, Kansas City's largest healthcare network, recently acquired the da Vinci® Robotic Surgical System. The advanced technology enhances a surgeon's ability to perform complex minimally invasive surgical procedures, enabling patients to experience a quicker recovery and fewer side effects. The da Vinci provides highly magnified visualization inside the body while offering a surgeon greater precision and can be used for a multitude of procedures including prostatectomy, hysterectomy, coronary artery bypass and colorectal surgery, among others.

Studies show that the da Vinci Robotic Surgical System allows for shorter hospital stays, reduced risk of infection, less blood loss and quicker returns to normal daily activities. With small incisions, patients often leave the hospital sooner and experience a recovery that is only a fraction of the time required for a traditional operation.
The da Vinci prostatectomy, or removal of the prostate gland, experienced a dramatic adoption rate by urologists since its introduction in 2001. This approach with the da Vinci has surpassed open surgery, which is performed with a large incision, to become the most-often performed approach to prostate cancer surgery in the United States. Gynecologists have also adopted the da Vinci surgical System for a range of gynecologic surgeries, including hysterectomy and myomectomy. Urologists use the da Vinci for numerous other procedures that were previously not possible in a minimally invasive fashion.
